Workflows overview

Repeatable multi-step jobs, written in plain English, that your agent runs on a schedule or on demand.

Workflows

A workflow is a repeatable job your agent carries out step by step. For example: "every Monday at 9am, find overdue invoices and email each customer a reminder." You describe the job in plain English, BetterClaw writes it out as a document, and your agent runs that document on a schedule or whenever you press Run now.

Workflows are in Beta. Expect the feature to keep changing while it's in Beta.

A workflow is a document, and every part of it can be edited:

  • A title and a one-sentence description. These show on the Workflows list and in the directory.
  • Sections. Each section is one step of the job, written as a short paragraph. They run in order, top to bottom.
  • A contract line under each section. It lists what the section reads and writes, and what it uses: connectors, secrets, or scripts.
  • An agent. The agent runs the workflow with its own model, tools, files, and memory.
  • A schedule, inputs, and connections. When it runs, the settings it uses on every run, and which connected account it uses for each tool.

Workflows sit alongside recurring tasks. A recurring task repeats one instruction. A workflow splits a job into named steps that you can read, run one at a time, and check after each run.

Where workflows live

Choose Workflows (tagged Beta) in the left rail. The Workflows page lists every workflow in the current workspace. If your workspace has none yet, it opens New workflow instead.

The rail on the left has:

  • New workflow: describe a new job. See Create a workflow.
  • Browse the directory: install a ready-made workflow. See Workflow directory.
  • Status filters: All workflows, Needs you, Running now, Waiting on a person, Failed last run, Ran cleanly, Stopped by you, and Never run. Each filter shows a count.

Reading the list

Each row shows the workflow's agent, title, and description, along with:

  • How its last run went: ok, failed, running now, waiting on a person, stopped by you, or never run. A strip shows how far the run got through the sections.
  • Its schedule and next run, or Not published yet / No schedule if it has none.
  • An on/off switch, shown once the workflow is published and scheduled.
  • Runs this month and Last run, plus a Logs link that opens the run history.

Anything that needs you is listed first under Needs you: a failed last run, a run waiting for your approval, or a workflow that paused itself. When something is wrong, a red bar at the top of the list says how many workflows need you.

If a run is waiting for your approval, you can answer from the row with Approve and carry on or Don't do it. You can also choose See everything first. See Approvals.

Duplicate or delete a workflow

Open a row's ⋯ menu:

  • Duplicate makes a copy and opens it, titled "(copy)". The copy is off until you publish it, so you can change it without affecting the original.
  • Delete workflow removes the workflow, its scripts, and its run history. If a run is waiting on an approval, deleting the workflow cancels that approval. You can't undo a delete.
