Linear AI Agent: Standups, Weekly Reports and Bug Triage From Your Issue Tracker

Linear, the issue tracker, has an official MCP server, and BetterClaw connects to it in one sign-in. Your agent can then find, create and update issues, projects, cycles and comments. BetterClaw already has four ready-made workflows that use Linear: daily standup notes, a weekly team report, PostHog errors to Linear and GCP error log triage. Reporting jobs only read from Linear, and you can make the whole server read-only.

What can an AI agent do in Linear?

Here are the jobs teams hand to a BetterClaw agent in Linear. The names under each one are the Linear actions the agent uses, so you can see exactly what it touches.

1

Standup notes every morning

Collect what you closed yesterday and what's next, then post it to Slack.

Example

Example: Weekly Team Report (ready-made workflow)

Runs: Every Friday at 3 pm.
What lands for you

A Friday status report written for you. It only reads Linear and never changes anything there.

Weekly Team Report (ready-made workflow)
  1. 1Pulls the week from Linear for the teams you choose: issues completed, in progress, stuck with no update, overdue and blocked, plus each team's cycle progress.
  2. 2Emails you a short report: a two-line summary, what shipped by project, what slipped, what's stuck and who it's waiting on, and this week's completed count against the last four weeks.

How to set it up

Install it from the Weekly Team Report workflow page, connect Gmail and Linear, optionally list the teams to include and the number of days before an issue counts as stuck, then publish. For daily standups use Standup Notes from Linear.

How to connect Linear to an AI agent

About two minutes, with no code and nothing to host.

  1. 1

In BetterClaw, open Connectors in the left rail and stay on Browse connectors.

    BetterClaw
  2. 2

    Search for "Linear".

It shows as an official MCP server card, so there's no URL to paste.

    BetterClaw
  3. Linear logo3

Select it and sign in to Linear.

You approve access on Linear's own screen and come back to BetterClaw.

  5. 5

    Review the tool list.

Each tool is labelled Read, Write or Destructive. Switch off any you don't want, or turn on Read-only mode to block every write in one go.

  6. 6

Choose which agents can use the server.

New connections are assigned to all agents, so switch it off for the ones that don't need it.

What can the agent access in Linear? Is it safe?

ReadWriteDestructive

Linear's MCP server covers finding, creating and updating issues, projects, cycles and comments. In BetterClaw, each tool is labelled Read, Write or Destructive. For reporting agents, switch on Read-only mode so they can never change an issue.

Your credentials are stored encrypted and your agents never see them. You can disconnect an account at any time from Connectors, and remove an agent's access without disconnecting the account.

Linear MCP server: do you need it?

BetterClaw connects to Linear's hosted server at mcp.linear.app, so new Linear connections always use it. Linear has deprecated its older SSE endpoint, which is a common cause of broken setups in self-hosted agents. In BetterClaw there's nothing to update. Developers can see the tool handle format in the docs, for example mcp__linear__list_issues.

Linear AI agent: common questions

How do I connect Linear to an AI agent?

In BetterClaw, open Connectors, search for Linear and sign in. Review the tools, pick which agents can use it, and install a Linear workflow or ask the agent directly.

Can it write my standup automatically?

Yes. Standup Notes from Linear collects yesterday's closed tickets and today's priorities and posts the update to Slack every weekday at 8 am.

Can I give it read-only access?

Yes. Turn on Read-only mode for the Linear server, or switch off individual Write and Destructive tools.

Does it work with Linear's own agents?

Yes. Linear's built-in features work inside Linear. A BetterClaw agent connects Linear to Slack, Gmail, PostHog and your other tools.

I use Linear MCP with Claude Code or OpenClaw. What's different?

BetterClaw runs the agent and its schedules for you, so standups and reports happen even when your laptop is closed.

Connect Linear and give your agent its first job.

Sign in once, pick a ready-made workflow or describe your own, and your agent does the rest.
