Meta Muse vs BetterClaw: Pricing, Limits, Privacy and the Muse Alternative (2026)
Meta Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent. It launched on 8 September 2026, topped the free app charts in the US and Canada, and passed 5 million US downloads in 22 days according to Sensor Tower. It can book tables, shop with partner stores, write emails and keep working after you close the app.
Meta Muse vs BetterClaw at a glance
This page answers what people actually search about Meta Muse: is it free, what the subscription costs, where it works, what it can and cannot do, and how it compares with BetterClaw, an AI agent platform for work that runs any model.
Quick answer: Meta Muse is free for most personal tasks, with paid plans at $20 and $100 a month. It runs only on Meta’s own model, works in the US and Canada, and shops only where partner stores allow it. Is Meta Muse free? Muse pricing and subscription
Yes, Meta Muse has a free tier, and Meta says most people will not need more. Alexandr Wang, Meta’s Chief AI Officer, said “for the vast majority of users, they should be able to do what they need to within the free tier.” There are two paid plans for heavier use.
You need to add a payment card to start, even on the free plan (TechCrunch, 8 September).
Meta plans to earn money by taking “a small fee from transactions,” Mark Zuckerberg said at Connect on 23 September. TheStreet reports merchants pay that fee, not users.
Muse for Small Business (launched 29 September) is also free to start, with subscription plans for more usage. Meta has not published separate business prices.
Power and Max allowances are from Meta’s help page. The free tier’s allowance comes from TheStreet’s Connect coverage; Meta hasn’t published it.
How BetterClaw pricing compares
BetterClaw is a flat subscription from $19 a month. You can bring your own API key from any of 28+ providers and pay the model provider directly with zero markup, so you choose how much each task costs. See all plans

What Meta Muse can do
Personal tasks: write and send emails, book travel and restaurants, fill in forms, negotiate bills, turn a recipe video into a grocery list, and shop.
Works in the background: it keeps going after you close the app and asks before sensitive actions.
Memory: it remembers your preferences, and you can tell it to forget something.
Video avatar: a real-time avatar you can video chat with, powered by a separate Muse Realtime Avatar model.
Mac app: on Mac it can work across your files, calendar, notes and messages, asking first before sensitive actions.
Partners: payments through Link by Stripe, Shopify and Shop Pay, and PayPal; retailers and services including Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, Wayfair, Expedia and Instacart; plus GitHub, Granola and Notion. Meta says developers sent over 1,500 applications to its connector platform in less than a week.
What Meta Muse cannot do (yet)
Shop on Amazon. Around 20 to 21 September, Amazon started blocking Meta Muse, telling it that “continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use.” Amazon said third-party apps should “operate openly and respect service provider decisions.” Meta says Muse stores login details securely and the agent cannot see them.
Finish every checkout. In CNN’s hands-on test (23 September), Meta Muse could not complete a Target checkout, could not message Marketplace sellers, and suggested two restaurants that had closed years earlier. It did book a dinner reservation, make a moving plan, email a friend and create a Google Doc.
Use other AI models. Meta Muse runs on Meta’s own Muse Spark. There is no option to pick Claude, GPT or Grok, or to bring your own key.
Work outside the US and Canada.
This matters for one reason: an agent that shops and books for you depends on every store agreeing to let it in. When a big retailer says no, that part of the agent stops working.
Meta Muse privacy: what Meta says
If privacy is your main concern, change the training setting on day one and only connect the accounts Meta Muse needs.
Each user gets a dedicated “Muse Secure VM”, and a separate “Sentinel” agent approves anything Meta Muse sends out to the internet.
Meta says Muse has “no visibility into people’s passwords or payment methods”, keeps a full audit trail, and lets you disconnect any service at any time.
Meta says Muse “doesn’t share a person’s conversations or the data in their VM with Meta’s ad systems.”
Your interactions can be used to train Meta’s models unless you opt out. Axios reports this is on by default.
A “Muse Confidential VM” with end-to-end encryption is planned, targeted for the end of 2026 according to Axios.
Security: on 21 September a researcher disclosed a flaw in the Mac app that let code already on the computer misuse Meta Muse. Meta confirmed a fix the next day.
Muse for Small Business vs BetterClaw
On 29 September Meta launched Muse for Small Business in the US and Canada. Meta Muse review: is it worth it?
For personal errands in the US or Canada, yes. Meta Muse is free for most people, it is fast to set up, and it is clearly improving every week. The limits are real, though: one model, two countries, and shopping that depends on which stores allow it. For work agents that live in your team’s tools and use the model you choose, a platform like BetterClaw is the better fit.
