"You can't open the application Grok Bot because this application is not supported on this Mac"

Last checked

The error

You can’t open the application “Grok Bot” because this application is not supported on this Mac.

macOS Finder dialog when launching the app; the Grok Bot icon in the installer window also shows a crossed-out circle.

This macOS dialog means the Grok Bot build you downloaded was compiled for Apple silicon (arm64) and your Mac has an Intel processor. The main Download for macOS button gives you the Apple silicon build by default. Grok Bot does support Intel Macs: delete the app, go back to the Grok Bot download page, open More downloads, and install the Intel build. Nothing is wrong with your account or plan.

Why it happens

macOS refuses to launch an app that contains no code for your CPU. Grok Bot ships separate Apple silicon and Intel builds, and the default download button serves the Apple silicon one.

  1. Intel Mac with the Apple silicon build. This is the reported cause on the Cursor forum: a user on a quad-core Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro hit the dialog on two versions and fixed it by getting the Intel build.
  2. Auto-detection on the download page. Another Intel Mac user reported the primary Download for macOS button only offered the arm64 file; Cursor staff confirmed the Intel build sits under More downloads.
  3. Reinstalling the same file. Downloading again from the main button, or updating, gives you the same Apple silicon build, so the error repeats.

The fix

  1. 1 Check your chip: open Apple menu, About This Mac. A Chip line means Apple silicon; a Processor line means Intel. In Terminal, uname -m prints x86_64 on Intel and arm64 on Apple silicon.
  2. 2 Quit Grok Bot if it is open and drag the existing Grok Bot app from Applications to the Trash.
  3. 3 Go to the Grok Bot download page (x.ai/bot, or the Grok Bot page of your Cursor dashboard), scroll to Download Grok Bot, and open More downloads.
  4. 4 Download the Intel Mac build, open the dmg, drag Grok Bot to Applications, and launch it.
  5. 5 Sign in with your Cursor account. Grok Bot has no separate login.
uname -m

Model name is not valid: "grok-4-7-0907"

On 7 September 2026 Grok Bot users on Mac, iOS and Android saw AI Model Not Found with Model name is not valid: "grok-4-7-0907". Cursor staff said a model configuration change on their side caused it for about 20 minutes, and that quitting, signing out, or creating a new Bot would not help.

Grok Bot has no model picker, so there is nothing to change locally. If it comes back, note the send time and Request ID and report it to Cursor support.

Grok Bot not connecting to computer

Errors like Can't reach your computer, Can't reach Grok Bot's Computer (mentioning *.cursorvm.com), or Can't reach the Bot's screen are a different problem. Each Bot works on its own cloud computer, and these mean the app cannot reach it or it failed to start.

From Cursor staff replies on the forum: if the app is old or cannot update, quit it fully and reinstall the latest version. If your network or antivirus does HTTPS scanning, add Grok Bot to exclusions or test another network or DNS. Settings, Bot, Bot Computer, Reset Computer rebuilds the computer from its last snapshot. In early October 2026 staff also confirmed service-side outages where Reset and Update could not help, so check the Cursor forum before repeating Reset.

Still failing?

  • If you are on an Intel Mac and the Intel build still will not open, check you deleted the old app and are not launching a cached copy from the dmg.
  • If macOS blocks the app for security reasons rather than CPU support, choose Open when macOS asks, which is a different dialog from this one.
  • If the app opens but Bots never load, follow the not connecting to computer steps above and post your app version on forum.cursor.com.

Frequently asked questions

Does Grok Bot run on Intel Macs?

Yes. Grok Bot's get-started guide lists macOS on Apple silicon and Intel, plus Windows, Linux and iOS. The Intel build is just not the default download.

Can Rosetta run the Apple silicon build on an Intel Mac?

No. Rosetta translates Intel apps for Apple silicon, not the reverse, so an arm64-only app cannot run on an Intel Mac. You need the Intel build.

Do I need a separate Grok Bot account?

No. Grok Bot signs in with your Cursor account. Access comes with paid individual Cursor plans, Cursor Teams, a linked SuperGrok plan, or a Grok Business seat.
